Established in 2016
Hobsons Bay is a community with a deep and proud literary history, and vibrant and diverse culture of writing. In 2015, Hobsons Bay launched Homegrown Hobsons Bay Authors, an innovative program to celebrate and to grow the potential and reach of writers from Hobsons Bay. Libraries held published authors’ titles in the ‘homegrown’ section.
In 2025, the group became Writers Out West (Hobsons Bay) a shift towards including published and unpublished writers.
WOW (Writers Out West Hobsons Bay) exists to support writers' productivity, performance and prosperity. We host events and share opportunities, insights and resources to enhance the visibility and publishing success of writers in the Western Suburbs. WOW continues to collaborate with council to find new ways of supporting the writing arts and WOW continues to contribute to the excellence of all creative arts in Hobsons Bay.
WOW (Writers Out West Hobsons Bay) means:
W - Writers who champion each other's success
O - Opportunities shared generously among peers
W - Writing dreams transformed into reality
WOW is the sound of writers discovering they don't have to face their creative journey alone, and readers enjoying their works.
WOW manages:
A data base of local writers that includes their connection to Hobsons Bay and a list of any published work.
Organises workshops, run by members for professional development as well as for the community.
A closed Facebook page for members to share news and information within the group or if you are not on FB but would like to be kept in the loop, we have a Google Group for internal email communication. Click here or Email admin for an invitation to join the group.
